As much as pharmacy defines Wal-Mart's connection to the community, in many ways pharmacy is the connection to almost every other part of the store--it stands at the center of the intersection between health and wellness, perhaps the hottest trend in retailing today, and so many seemingly disparate businesses. There are the obvious connections: things like OTCs and health and beauty aids, stuff like cough-cold and pain relief, skin care, foot cafe and sun care.

They're shopping at the prescription counter, and they are going to need to pick up a heart-healthy cereal, or they need to get a sugar-free snack because they have diabetes, or they need exercise equipment. All of that ties together, and that is what we want to offer the consumer. They can come to Wal-Mart, and they get their medication, and they can also get the fitness equipment, and they can get food."
